Stuff Generation X’ers Can’t Live Without

If you were born between 1965 and 1980 not only does that make you an oldie in internet circles but more prone to the dagginess commonly found in the generation of people known as Gen X’ers. The other day I was discussing a certain computer related issue with some kid about 20 years my junior who was surprised that I even knew what the internet was. Epic fail!

1980s-logo1We X’ers are the generation who grew up during the seventies and eighties which was a time of dodgy music and even dodgier fashion. Although I must admit to getting nostalgic after a few glasses of cheap wine and putting on the daggiest 1980’s track known to mankind. But hey we all have our weaknesses O_o

Because we were forced to grow up in a world without cell phones, My Space, Facebook and other such whizz bangery we had simpler tastes. As a result we have been exposed to certain things that later generations would consider passe or retro at best.

Some of the stuff any self respecting Gen X’er couldn’t live without are:

  • McDonald’s & Wendy’s  (The first to generation to grow up on this junk)
  • Valium (Mommas little helpers saw us through many a tough time)
  • Hairspray (Our hair falls out unless we spray it on daily)
  • Cheap plonk (Recession was never far away so we resorted to cheap liquor)
  • 80’s music (Power ballads and slushy love songs still make us cry)
  • Sex toys (The generation that gave you divorce on a mass scale had better ideas)
  • Blockbuster 80’s movies on VHS (The 80’s were the time of big budget flicks)
  • Sugar addictions (We have a secret weakness for Krispie Kremes and Dr Pepper
  • Good coffee (Hanging out in coffee shops went with the territory)
  • Soap operas and sit-coms (We still watch endless repeats of old classics)

There is probably hundreds more things I couldn’t live without. These is just a small sample of the things that I couldn’t go more than a couple of weeks without. If you are a Gen X’er and think there is something that really should be added to the list feel free to send a comment telling us what it is that you couldn’t live without.
